FIRST HOLY COMMUNION CONFIRMATION FAMILY PREPARATION
Preparation for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion at Jesus Christ, Prince of Peace Church, begins with the parent/s being the first teacher for their children in the ways of the faith. At that time, children need to learn prayers and begin to discover the meaning of their Catholic faith. The children who are members of Jesus Christ, Prince of Peace Parish, receive these sacraments usually in Second grade.
As stated in the Rite of Baptism, parents are the primary teachers of their children in the ways of faith. With this in mind, parent/s will gather each month to learn and discuss what they will teach their child in the next few weeks. The first semester will focus on the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and the second will focus on First Holy Communion. These meetings assist parents in their understanding of the significance of the sacraments and guide them in preparing their child/ren to receive these sacraments.
Parental involvement is the key to prayer, worship, and catechesis. Parents are examples of the faith by attending Mass weekly with their child/ren. The godparents, grandparents, and coordinators may be additional role models, but it is important to stress that parental involvement shows interest and commitment for the entire family.
Eucharist is about Jesus and the Church. Each person – from the coordinators, parent catechists, children, and the entire faith community of Jesus Christ, Prince of Peace Parish –is invited to grow in faith and be open to the gift of Jesus’ loving and merciful presence.
